The Repurposing Engine

Turn one long video into Shorts, clips, posts, a newsletter, a blog article and podcast audio with a simple workflow, the right tools and a posting schedule.

You already did the hard part: the research, the script, the filming. Publishing that work once and moving on leaves most of its value in the box. Repurposing turns one long video into a week or more of content across platforms, reaches people who will never watch a 15-minute video, and sends some of them back to your channel, podcast or email list. This page gives you the engine: what to make, how to make it fast, and when to post it.

The one-to-many map

One solid long-form video can feed every channel you run. You don’t need all of these. Start with two or three and add more when the workflow feels easy.

Shorts, Reels and TikToks

Vertical clips of the best single ideas, each with its own hook. The biggest reach multiplier for most creators. See Short-Form Video.

Horizontal clips

Longer highlights (a minute or several) for LinkedIn, X, Facebook or a clips channel.

Text posts and carousels

Turn key points into a thread, a LinkedIn post or an image carousel for Instagram or LinkedIn.

Quote graphics

One strong line on a branded background. Quick to make, easy to share.

Newsletter

A short email summarizing the lesson with a personal note and a link to the full video. See Newsletter for Creators.

Blog article

Transcript turned into a structured, edited article with the video embedded. Helps search traffic over time. See YouTube SEO and SEO Business in a Box.

Podcast audio

If the video works without visuals, publish the audio as a podcast episode. See Podcasting.

What’s in the box: repurpose, don’t just re-post. Each piece should be adapted to its platform: its own hook, format, length and caption. Same idea, native packaging.

Plan for repurposing before you film

The easiest repurposing happens when you plan for it on filming day.

  • Frame for both shapes. Keep your head and key action in the center of a horizontal frame so you can crop to vertical without losing anything.
  • Write self-contained segments. Sections that make sense on their own become ready-made clips.
  • Say the point in one sentence. Crisp, quotable lines become hooks, quotes and post openers.
  • Record a few vertical-only takes of your best tip while you’re set up.
  • Avoid “as I said earlier” in segments you plan to clip.

The repurposing workflow

  1. Transcribe. Get an accurate transcript from your editor or an AI tool. It’s the raw material for everything text-based.
  2. Find the moments. Pick the strongest 3โ€“8 self-contained moments: a surprising tip, a clear before/after, a strong opinion, a quick how-to. AI clip-finding tools can suggest candidates; you make the final picks.
  3. Cut vertical clips. Reframe to 9:16, add a text hook in the first second, tighten ruthlessly, and add captions.
  4. Write the text pieces. Use AI to draft a newsletter, blog article and social posts from the transcript, then edit in your own voice and fact-check.
  5. Export the audio. Clean it, add a short intro and outro, and publish as a podcast episode if the format suits it.
  6. Schedule everything. Load the week into a scheduler or your platforms’ native scheduling tools, with tracked links where relevant.
Pro tip: Add UTM parameters to links in your newsletter, bio and posts so you can see which platforms actually send people to your site or offer. Build them with the UTM Builder.

Captions: non-negotiable

Many people watch social video with the sound off, and captions make your content accessible to viewers who are deaf or hard of hearing. They also help viewers follow along in noisy places.

  • Burn stylish captions into short-form clips; use platform caption files (like SRT) for long-form where supported
  • Proofread names, numbers and jargon; auto-captions often get these wrong
  • Keep captions in the safe area so platform buttons and descriptions don’t cover them
  • Use large, high-contrast text and short lines; highlight one key word at a time if it fits your style

A sample weekly posting schedule

This assumes one long-form video per week. Adjust volume to what you can sustain with quality. Posting times depend on your audience, so check your own analytics rather than relying on generic “best time to post” advice.

Day Long-form Short-form Text and email
Monday โ€” Clip 1 (strongest hook) LinkedIn or X post from key idea
Tuesday โ€” Clip 2 Quote graphic
Wednesday โ€” Clip 3 Carousel of the main steps
Thursday New video publishes Teaser clip pointing to the video Newsletter with link
Friday โ€” Clip 4 Blog article goes live, video embedded
Saturday โ€” Clip 5 (or a repost of the best performer on another platform) Podcast audio episode
Sunday โ€” Rest or community replies Plan next week

Map it out for a whole month with the Content Calendar Generator. Read the full walkthrough in Repurpose One Video Into 20 Posts.

Heads up: Cross-posting the exact same file everywhere can look lazy, and some platforms may show less of content with other apps’ watermarks. Export clean versions without watermarks, adapt captions per platform, and only repurpose content you own or have rights to. If you repurpose client videos as a service, get the rights in writing.

AI prompts for repurposing

AI Prompt

Here is the transcript of my video "[title]": [paste transcript].
1. Identify the 5 strongest self-contained moments for vertical clips. For each: the start and end lines, why it works, and a 1-line on-screen hook.
2. Write a 5-slide carousel outline of the main steps.
3. Write a LinkedIn post (under 200 words) and an X thread (5 posts) based on the core idea.
Keep my voice. Do not add facts that are not in the transcript.
AI Prompt

Turn this transcript into a blog article: [paste transcript].
Structure it with a clear intro, H2 sections, a short checklist and a conclusion. Remove verbal filler. Keep my examples and opinions.
Suggest a title, a meta description under 160 characters, and 3 places to embed the video or clips.
Then write a 150-word newsletter version with a personal opening line I can customize: [my note].
